Game Recap

O’Connell volleyball makes its final road trip of the 2017 regular season, facing the KIPP Northeast Gators.

The Bucs and Gators met in Galveston on Sept. 19th earlier this season, with OC taking a 3-0 win.

Buccaneer volleyball (11-5) drilled out a 3-0 sweep over KIPP NEon the road, 25-4, 25-10, 25-13, at the Houston Boys & Girls Club.

O’Connell dominated the first set, needing only 3 servers. Abriel Casas led the game with a 6-0 run, followed by Elizabeth Pennington with a 8-0 run, and the game ended with an 8-0 run by Josie Flores.

In the second, with the teams squared at 1-1, the Bucs took an even bigger run, rattling off a 7-0 stretch by Nieci Charles to take control of the set.

Fighting off a late push by KIPP NE, the Bucs outlasted the Gators to take the third set, 25-13.

O’Connell heads to San Antonio for State next Thursday! Go Bucs!

The Lady Bucs swept the Senators in 3 to win Tuesday’s match. O’Connell had 3 aces and 12 kills in the match. Abriel Casas contributed two aces. Elisabeth Rojas led in digs with 20 and Casas followed with 17. Casas also led kills with 4 and Josie Flores and Nieci Charles added 3 each. Flores also contributed one solo block to the match. Elizabeth Pennington contributed 10 assists.

Game Recap

O’Connell volleyball (12-9, 9-4 TCAL) pulled a big win on Thursday against non-conference competitor Baytown Christian.

OC picked up the series with a 5-game win over the Bulldogs.

The Bucs got off to a rough start, Bulldogs opening in the first game with a 5-0 run and pulling away late to take the 1-0 match advantage against the Lady Bucs.

From there, the Bucs settled in, claiming a big 25-15 win in the second but fell 20-25 in the third, giving BCA a 2-1 advantage.

After opening a big lead in the fourth at 13-7, the Bucs peppered in a pair of 5-0 runs and a 2-0 run to win the game 25-18.

In the fifth, the two sides traded points, with OC’s Elizabeth Pennington going on an 11-0 serving run closing the match and claiming the fifth set, 15-2, and a 3-2 match win.

HIGHLIGHTS
• O’Connell had seven players with double digit digs; Abriel Casas (23), Georgina Pizzitola (22), Elizabeth Pennington (17), Elisabeth Rojas (16), Josie Flores (12), Nieci Charles (10) Tori Saracco (10).
• The Lady Bucs totaled 17 kills, led by Josie Flores with 7 and followed by Georgina Pizzitola with 4 and Abriel Casas with 3.
• Elizabeth Pennington had 15 assists, with Nieci Charles and Brooke Cromie each adding one.
• Josie Flores logged a season high of 7 blocks, with Nieci Charles and Tori Saracco each contributing one.

Despite having 12 kills and two aces in the match, the Lady Bucs fell short against Cristo Rey. Georgina Pizzitola led in kills with 5 while Tori Saracco followed with 4. Abriel Casas and Pizzitola each contributed an ace. Our setter, Elizabeth Pennington, led the game in digs having 21 – which held our hitting to a season low -0.104. MB Josie Flores dominated at the net with 4 solo blocks while Saracco contributed 1.
